Community Academy

The City of Rosemead and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Temple Sheriff's Station), in partnership with the Asian Community Advisory Committee is proud to offer the Community Academy to local residents in Rosemead and Temple City.

The Community Academy is a program designed to give participants a working knowledge of Temple Sheriff's Station and the City Department's operations. The Academy is conducted over a six-week period. It is an educational and informative program that allows participants the opportunity to learn from department personnel who are experts in the area of coroner procedures, patrol and traffic laws, graffiti, emergency preparedness/CERT, and the City of Rosemead Department's function and operations. All participants will have an opportunity to visit Twin Towers Tour (Men and Women Central Jail) and a ride-along sometime during the Academy session.

We encourage community members over 18 years old to attend. A typical class will consist of 30-35 people. Spaces is limited.

One of the goals of the Community Academy is to help residents better understand the day to day operation of the Sheriff's Department. In addition, all graduates of the Academy will get to know more about the men and women who are protecting their community and why they make the decisions they do while performing that duty.

When residents take a more personal look into their community, and the protection of their community and neighborhoods, they will enjoy a safer and closer relationship with their neighbors.

In addition, graduates will be encouraged to join the Neighborhood Watch Program and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This will give them the opportunity to continue to be proactive in their neighborhood and to keep the community safer.

Community involvement plays an important and vital role in reducing crime in any community. Therefore the Temple Sheriff's Station instituted the Community Academy to improve the communication and obtain the citizen input and support throughout the city. It is our hope that the graduates will become partners with us in identifying problems and solutions to the crime issues that are affecting our community. Graduates will take their knowledge to their neighborhoods where they can use it to enhance the quality of neighborhood life.

The objective of this course is not to make the graduates police officers, but better informed citizens with a greater general knowledge of the many functions within the Sheriff's Department and City's Department. Our goal is to foster enhanced community relations from these graduates and the people they touch in every day life.

There is no cost. This is a free program offered to you by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Temple Station) and the City of Rosemead.
