TROPICAL STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FOR LOS ANGELES COUNTY AND CITY OF ROSEMEAD
The Rosemead Public Safety Department is continuing to monitor the progress of Hurricane Hilary and the National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the area. Residents are encouraged to take protective measures.
Expected to arrive in our area as a tropical storm, Hilary is expected to have its greatest impact in our area on Sunday, August 20th in the early morning, with peak intensity of the storm Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning. As the storm moves through our area, expect heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for localized flooding. Power outages may also occur.
Additionally, per the National Weather Service, Rosemead residents should prepare for the following:
- Flash flooding
- Scattered power outages, including downed power lines
- Damage to porches, awnings, carports, and sheds
- Large tree limbs may break off and some trees may potentially snap or uproot
- Fences and roadway signs may blow over
- Roads may become impassable from debris
- Hazardous driving conditions may occur on bridges or other elevated roadways
It is recommended to avoid all unnecessary travel during the storm. Residents are encouraged to be prepared for any eventuality and have emergency supplies to help you, your family, and pets endure this unprecedented event. The Rosemead Public Safety Department recommends that you acquire the following basic supplies:
- Water (1 gallon of water per person/per day)
- Canned goods and non-perishable food
- A manual can opener
- Medication(s) – 30 days of supply
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- Blankets
- Battery-operated radio
Local emergency management officials are encouraging residents to sign up for emergency alerts, such as Alert L.A. County (by clicking here), and Nixle Alerts, at www.nixle.com for the latest emergency information in your area. You may also visit Ready.LaCounty.gov for more information on emergency preparedness.
Rosemead residents can report any downed trees, power lines, or other storm-related emergencies in Rosemead as follows:
- To report issues related to down or unsafe power lines, damaged poles, or traffic light outages, please contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department – Temple Station at (626) 285-7171;
- To report downed trees on a public right-of-way, please contact the Rosemead Public Works Department at (626) 569-2262; and

- For fire or medical emergencies, please dial 9-1-1.
