City of Rosemead Activates Cooling Center at
Rosemead Community Recreation Center, July 6, 2018.
The City of Rosemead is happy to offer our residents and community members a comfortable place to relax and cool down during heat waves. The Rosemead Community Recreation Center (RCRC) serves as the City’s Cooling Center. The RCRC Cooling Center is activated anytime the outside temperature in Rosemead is or exceeds 95 degrees for two consecutive days. To provide Rosemead residents with relief from the heat, the RCRC facility will remain open to the public from 8 am to 8 pm on Friday, July 6, 2018. The RCRC Cooling Center is located at 3936 North Muscatel Avenue, Rosemead. For more information, please call Parks and Recreation Department at (626) 569-2160.
Services available to Rosemead residents utilizing the City’s Cooling Center include open seating in the lounge, restrooms, and drinking fountains. Meals and beverages will not be provided and must be furnished by the patrons visiting the Cooling Center.
If the temperature hits this level on Saturdays and Sundays, please visit the Los Angeles County information hotline at 2-1-1 from any landline or cell phones within the county or for a list of Cooling Centers and information on heat-related illnesses and prevention, please visit the Public Health website at www.publichealth.lacounty.gov.
The City is also encouraging residents to check on neighbors and family members – seniors in particular – who may be especially sensitive to extreme heat. Residents should also take precautions to stay healthy during the summer months by drinking plenty of water, limiting activities to cooler times of the day, wearing lightweight and comfortable clothing, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
