THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD TO HOST AMATEUR HAM RADIO CLASS

The City of Rosemead Public Safety Department is partnering with the Disaster Communication System to host an Amateur Ham Radio Class to prepare participants for the Federal Communications Commission (F.C.C.) examination for a Technician Class Amateur Radio License.

Licensed Amateur Radio (“Ham”) Operators often assist with communications during disasters by providing emergency personnel with critical information as they are able to transmit messages without the use of phones or the internet.

The public is invited to take the 2-day course and examination on Friday, November 2, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, November 3, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Center, 8301 Garvey Avenue. The cost is $10 for the class (which must be prepaid) and $15 exam fee. Participants are encouraged to buy and read the textbook two weeks before the start of the class. The required text, Gordon West W5YI Technician Manual (valid to June 30, 2022), is available at www.hamradio.com or www.w5yi.org. Class registration deadline is November 1, 2018.
