Community Update for Control of COVID-19

Effective July 13, 2020, the County of Los Angeles Public Health Order was revised in order to align with Governor Newsom’s directives to prevent more cases, more serious illnesses, increased hospitalizations and more deaths. The revised Order requires the immediate closure of additional indoor operations for certain sectors which promote the mixing of population beyond households and make adherence to physical distancing with face coverings difficult, as follows:

• Gyms and Fitness Centers;
• Places of Worship;
• Indoor Protests;
• Offices for Non-Critical Infrastructure Sectors;
• Personal Care Services (including nail salons, massage parlors, and tattoo parlors);
• Hair Salons and Barbershops; and
• Malls.
  

Please note that specific higher-risk businesses and locations remain closed. Public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit must also remain prohibited. Higher-risk businesses and locations include:

• Lounges and nightclubs;
• Bars, breweries, tasting rooms, craft distilleries, and wineries that possess a valid low risk restaurant permit issued by the County of Los Angeles;
• Brewpubs, craft distilleries and wineries, with premises set aside for beer and/or wine tasting, that are exempt from the definition of a food facility by California Health and Safety Code Section 113789(c)(5), and do not hold a health permit for preparing and serving on site;
• Public entertainment venues such as theaters, concert venues theme parks, and festivals;
• Family entertainment centers such as bowling alleys, arcades and miniature golf courses, and batting cages;
• All restaurants, but only for indoor, in-person onsite dining, is not permitted until further notice;
• Cardrooms, satellite wagering facilities, and racetrack onsite wagering facilities, until further notice;
• Indoor and outdoor playgrounds for children, except those located within a school or childcare center;
• Outdoor portions of museums, galleries, botanical gardens, and outdoor facilities at zoos, aquariums, and other similar exhibitions spaces may remain open to the public. However, indoor portions and exhibits of museums, zoos and aquariums, are closed to the public until further notice;
• Indoor Mall or Shopping Center indoor food court dining and seating areas must close, until further notice. Restaurants located within an Indoor Mall or Shopping Center may offer food for deliver, carry out, and outdoor table dining;
• Hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas not located on residential property; and
• All events and gatherings unless allowed by the health Order.

Price Gouging Enforcement Update

Los Angeles County has approved an urgency ordinance to strengthen protections for County consumers and small businesses, and to eliminate price gouging during the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergencies. Effective immediately, the ordinance authorizes the filing of civil actions against price gougers and imposes a civil penalty of up to $10,000 per violation.

Great Plate Delivered Programs Extended Update

Great Plates Delivered has been extended until August 9^th. There's an easy way to help a local senior or business in your community. Through L.A. County's Great Plates Delivered Program you can help provide an eligible senior with three (3) home-delivered meals a day.

Seniors over 65, seniors 60-64 years of age who have been diagnosed or exposed to COVID-19 or those at high-risk for COVID-19 may qualify. When you help a senior connect to Great Plates Delivered you're also helping your local restaurant, hospitality and transportation community get back to work.

As a reminder, the recent regression of some of these COVID-19 indicators make it appropriate, at this time, to reimpose certain restrictions that are intended to limit person-to-person contact and slow the current rates of community transmission. While we are making good progress, it’s important to remember that the COVID-19 pandemic is still active. Residents, business owners and employees must observe physical distancing requirements and prevention techniques outlined above under the Safer at Home order. Please remember that violation of or failure to comply with the County’s Order is a crime and punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both.
