NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY FOR PUBLIC REVIEW AND COMMENT FOR THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD HOUSING ELEMENT UPDATE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The City of Rosemead is mandated by California State Law to prepare a Housing Element update for State certification. This update will cover the housing planning period between 2021 and 2029, often referred to as the 6th Cycle. The City’s existing Housing Element was adopted in 2013 and is set to expire in October 2021. The State Department of Housing and Community Development has provided a Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) to the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and the City of Rosemead has been assigned a RHNA of 4,612 units by SCAG for the upcoming 2021-2029 housing cycle across various income levels. The updated Housing Element will provide the capacity to accommodate the RHNA for the planning period with the necessary goals and policies to ensure adequate development of housing for the City during the housing cycle. Companion tasks to the Housing Element Update include focused updates to the General Plan relating to the Public Safety Element and addition of environmental justice policies to comply with State legislation.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: The City of Rosemead is circulating the 6th Cycle Housing Element Update for a 30-day public review and comment period for responsible agencies, interested organizations, and members of the public. This comment period begins on September 3, 2021 and will end on October 4, 2021. Public hearings for the project with the Planning Commission and City Council are anticipated to follow in the winter of 2021 and will be further noticed. Please provide written comments by 5:00 PM on Monday, October 4, 2021 by mail to the City of Rosemead, Community Development Department, Attn: Lily Valenzuela, 8838 East Valley Boulevard, Rosemead, CA 91770 or by email at ltrinh@cityofrosemead.org
