Mayor Ly serves on the Rosemead City Council, elected in March 2009 as Council member and Re-elected in March 2013, March 2017, and March 2022. In the 2011-2012 fiscal year, his council colleagues elected Ly to serve a one-year term as Mayor of Rosemead, becoming the youngest Mayor in his city's history at the age of 26. He has represented the city on several regional organizations, including LA Metro's San Gabriel Valley Service Sector, the San Gabriel Valley Council and is the Past President of the Los Angeles Division of the League of California Cities.
Steven Ly also serves as Captain in the United States Army Reserves in the Engineer regiment having commissioned from the Army's Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia in 2014. He recently completed a deployment to the Middle East in support of Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve where he Commanded a unit of 148 Soldiers.
Steven currently works for the Office of Jordan Z Marks, the San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk, serving as the Taxpayer Advocate. He has worked in government affairs and the non-profit sector since college, helping promote business development in the San Gabriel Valley community. He has over 20 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, marketing and branding, and organizational management.
Steven Ly is a graduate of UCLA with a B.A. in Political Science and Public Policy. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. Steven is also a product of Rosemead's education system, having gone to Willard Elementary, Temple Intermediate and Rosemead High School.
