City of Rosemead is set to have a ribbon cutting ceremony at Jay Imperial Park commemorating longtime Councilmember and Mayor

Rosemead, California– On Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 9:30 A.M., the City of Rosemead will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly created Jay Imperial Park. The park is located at 2361 Pine Street (Pine Street to Falling Leaf Avenue). The park was made possible through generous grants by the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, the US Department of Interior and California Department of Parks and Recreation.

The park is named after long time Mayor and Councilmember Jay Imperial who passed away on July 11, 2011. Mr. Imperial was elected to the Rosemead City Council in the 1970’s and served until 2007. This park will commemorate his legacy for his many years of service and dedication to the residents of the City of Rosemead. Mr. Imperial was survived by his wife, Cynthia and his two sons, Jeff and Rick. Jeff is a retired police officer and Rick is a school teacher in Rosemead.

Mayor Steven Ly payed adulations to the former mayor by stating that, “Mayor Imperial dedicated a major portion of his life to improving the lives of the residents of Rosemead. He ensured that a strong foundation was put in place so that the City can thrive for many generations. This park commemorates his life and we are proud to pay tribute to his service to our City”.

On Sunday, June 3rd, the festivities will be held between 8:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m., starting with a “Chinese Lion Dance” performed by the Northern Shaolin Kung Fu Association, a light breakfast, Tai Chi, Zumba and opening of the walking path will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m.
