Opportunity For Public Comments on
Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) Maps Updates
of The City of Rosemead
The City of Rosemead invites residents and businesses to review and provide input on the newly updated Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) maps. These maps, developed to assess wildfire risks, play a crucial role in local planning and safety measures.
Public Comment Period is from April 7 – May 7, 2025. Community members have 30 days to submit their comments, concerns, or feedback regarding the proposed FHSZ maps update.
The Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps were developed by CAL FIRE in response to major destructive wildfires, highlighting the need to identify high-risk areas and apply strategies to reduce wildfire threats. As a result, the California State Legislature mandated the mapping of these zones across all Local Responsibility Areas under Government Code 51178. Local Responsibility Areas are incorporated cities, urban regions, and agriculture lands, where the local government is responsible for wildfire protection.
Per the Government Code 51178, requires the State Fire Marshal to designate areas as moderate, high, or very high fire hazard severity zones based on consistent statewide criteria. These designations consider factors such as fuel loading, slope, fire weather, and areas where high winds contribute to wildfire spread.
The newly released FHSZ maps do identify a small area in Rosemead that has been identified as fire hazard. To review the updated FHSZ maps and submit your comments, please visit the City of Rosemead website: www.cityofrosemead.org or contact Mandy Wong, Public Safety Supervisor, at (626) 569-2292 during regular business hours, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
In addition, there will be an opportunity for Public Comments during a regular scheduled City of Rosemead City Council Meeting. Please visit the City Website for the upcoming City Council Meetings.
